Renton Welcomes Residents of the Benson Hill Communities
The Benson Hill/Cascade communities portion (see map) of the Potential Annexation Area (PAA) is 4.2 square miles and is home to 16, 272 residents. In November 2007, voters in the area approved annexation to the City. This annexation became effective on March 1, 2008. Prior to the annexation effective date, Renton was required to conduct a census of the population in the area. That process has been completed.
The pre-zoning (see pre-zoning map) for the Benson Hill/Cascade area was approved by the City Council on December 10, 2007. Under State annexation statutes, the City has the authority to determine future zoning and adopt a pre-zoning ordinance that would only become effective upon subsequent annexation. Pre-zoning is required to be consistent with the Renton Comprehensive Plan. Click here to view the Renton Comprehensive Plan Land Use Map.
